Health > Real stories > Archive > D > DiabetesDiabetesby CallumMy story is a recent story. I was diagnosed with diabetes recently and I was so shocked. I could see my mum's eyes building up with tears but I tried not to get too upset. I stayed in hospital for a few days so I could learn about the insulin and stuff. My mum learned how to give me insulin injections in case of an emergency. Insulin diabetes runs in my family but it was my great great granddad who had diabetes. I found out that what he had to go through it was a lot harder than what I have to deal with. He had to use 6 inch glass needles to put in his insulin I stay happy by thinking how lucky I am. When I found out I had diabetes, I was upset because I wanted to be a RAF pilot and I can't do that now. I have read people's stories and how they have dealt with their situation. They found other careers that they can do. So I keep myself happy by thinking how lucky I am just to have diabetes and nothing else.
