My tumour and chemotherapy

by Ellie, 12

About 9 years ago I was diagnosed with Wilm’s tumour. It’s where I had a growth on my left kidney and had to have it taken out.

I had chemotherapy, which is a form of medicine which kills the growth inside my kidney. I also had vincristine, which I had to have put in my veins once every couple of weeks.

I had to make trips via train to GOSH about once every couple of weeks. I lost all of my hair and had to wear a special hat that my mum’s friend Jill bought me – everyone put loads of badges on it to make it special just for me.

Now I’m 12 years old and still left with a long scar across my tummy. My mummy says I will have my scar forever but I do not mind as it is not a showing part of my body to others.

Everybody tells me that I’m special cause of what I had and very lucky to still be here. I have never had a chance to really express myself about my story so I hope you enjoyed reading.

I would love to thank all the doctors that helped me and all of the nurses that cared for me. Thank you so much. P.S Especially Michael who was on the elephant day care .xxxx Ellie xxxxxxxxx
