Health > Real stories > Archive > B > Brain tumoursBrain tumoursby CarlIt started about three and a half years ago, when I was 12. I kept having headaches and felt tired most of the time, not like I normally do. That's when I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. I started coming to GOSH for treatment, and have been in and out a lot. At first I was very nervous, just going to the doctor, not really knowing what was going on. I've had different types of treatment; chemotherapy and radiotherapy, an external shunt and a bone marrow transplant. What has happened has felt like a dream, it doesn't seem real. I've been here a long time, and get a lot of support. My mum is lovely, I know it's not always easy for her. I think it can help parents to talk to each other, and get support for themselves. For me? I don't think it's always necessary to know other people who've been through the same but it helps a lot having your friends around, and also making new friends on the ward, it helps to get you through the days.
